What Do I Really Want in Life
Do you know the answer to that question? What do you really want? Do you have what you want or have you given up on the idea that it could be yours?
All of us at some time in our lives have struggled with unmet expectations. Maybe we don’t have the family we want or the career we dreamed about. Maybe we would love to look different or have more money in the bank. Could it be that we have made mistakes and feel we missed out on the life we could have had?
Do we even know what we want? Or are we just going through the motions, getting through the day, and growing more and more complacent? Are we so busy and easily distracted that we have forgotten what we wanted?
Here’s a good question…
What would change in our lives if we came to a place where we knew – really knew – what was important to us and what we really wanted?
Grab a piece of paper and let’s start a list. At the top of the page, write “What I Really Want in Life”. Then give it some thought. Make a list. You may find that you go back and mark some things off because you realize they really aren’t important to you.
Because you are reading this blog, Master What Matters, my guess is that your relationship with God is important to you. (Add that to your list.) Knowing His plan for your life and what He wants you to do will probably make the list as well. It is a beautiful thing when what we want lines up with what God wants for us.
What does God want for us?
Jeremiah 29:11-14, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
This promise was made to ancient Jews under the Babylonian exile, but it expresses the unchanging heart of God toward His people. Therefore, don’t we have to believe the same goes for us?
Here is what we can discern from this passage…
God has a plan for each one of us and it is good.
Even when we are struggling and not sure what we want, God is thinking about us and His thoughts are toward us.
Even if we think we are being punished or God has forgotten us, He is offering us peace, and He has plans to give us hope and a future. Jesus is our hope and Heaven is our future – but don’t forget that you can have peace and hope and know God’s plan for you now.
No matter where we are in our life, even if we have strayed – we can cry out to God and He will hear us.
If we seek Him and His plan for our life, we will find Him.
And through a personal relationship with Jesus, we can be set free!
So… what if #1 on our list was “I really want in life what God wants for me”? What if we prayed a one word prayer and said, “Yes” to whatever God wants? What if we became intentional about pursuing God’s plan for our life? No more bondage. No more excuses. Nothing to hold us back from stepping fully into the plans He has for us?
Here is what we can know for sure…
We will surely be led outside of our comfort zone, because that way God gets the glory.
We can trust that He will be with us, equip us and provide all that we need.
If we obey and follow where He leads, we will find our Promised Land.
God has a plan for you and it is good. I am praying for you friend. I am praying you say “yes” today because I know that Jesus is inviting you into MORE with Him.
