What do YOU Believe?
Have you ever stopped, sat down, and given that some thought?
What do you believe? What do you really believe?
Are we living as if we believe what we say we believe?
If we are willing to be honest and go there, this question brings about some discomfort for us. We want to think we are living a God-honoring life. We want to feel really good about it. But… are we? Let’s ponder these points…
Are we trying to control our circumstances and our future? Or are we submitting every area of our life to the One of ultimate authority and control?
Are we seeking praise and appreciation for all that we do? Or do we recognize that ALL honor and praise goes to the only One Who is worthy?
Are we making our plans and striving to accomplish them all? Or are we surrendering our all to Him and saying Yes to His plan for us?
(Whew! I had to take a break and go get on my knees after asking myself those questions. Lord, forgive us! Lord, help us all! Lord, lead us!)
Let’s take some steps to get ourselves re-centered…
1. Remember Who God is. Who is He? In Saved by Grace, Now What?, I wrote… “God is the Supreme Being, the Creator of All, the Infinite One. In Revelations 1:8 we read God’s self-description, ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord, Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty.’ Need I say more? He is everything…” He is the One of ultimate authority and control. It is only by His grace that we are taking a breath right this minute. He is God, we are not. Let’s remember Who He is and step down off the throne. My favorite quote is by AW Tozer, “As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once.”
2. Remember who we are. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, you are a child of God. (If you haven’t or aren’t sure, today is a good day to do that.) He is your Father. Just like we want our children to submit to our authority, He is waiting for us to submit to His authority in our life. And just like our children think their way is best, we foolishly forget God’s way is best for us. We can stop the craziness. No more striving, no more people pleasing, no more controlling or trying to earn our way, no more trying to get the credit, no more seeking man’s approval. We are His. He has approved us. He has chosen us. We are His beloved and He calls us His Masterpiece. We can embrace His love, His comfort, His peace that passes all understanding and find rest in Him. Remembering who we are means remembering who He is and that whatever He is asking us to do – He will do through us. It’s no longer about us. Our life is all about Him.
3. Choose His way. If we were to run everything in our life through the filter of God’s word, what would we discover we are doing our way instead of God’s way? The world says we have rights, but God tells us we have responsibilities. The world says that we should be full or ourselves and prideful; but God hates pride. The world tells us to do what makes us feel good; but God warns us that those things are fleeting and will lead to disaster. His way is the best way. The only way that we can walk in obedience to God, is to get into His word. We cannot lean on our own understanding. He sent His only Son so that we could be reconciled to Him. Jesus paid our ransom, left an example for us to follow, and is always with us. We are not to practice religion and go through the motions. We are to be in a growing relationship with Jesus; one that transforms us from the inside out.
Why is this important?
Because Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has a plan for us. He wants us to surrender our life to Him – not only for salvation – but as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1-2) used for His glory. He is calling us to Rise Up! God wants to transform you & your leadership to work through you to transform the lives of those you lead. (Don’t foolishly think you are not a leader. God is calling you to leadership and no matter where He has placed you, others are watching you.)
Are you ready to rise up?
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
He is waiting for your yes. He is waiting for you to live out what you believe.
I am praying for you!
