Does Leadership Matter?
Does Leadership Matter?
When we are in a situation where we are experiencing poor leadership, we proclaim that it matters. But what about when we need to rise up and lead? Do we recognize that it matters, or do we tell ourselves that it doesn’t matter?
I’ll let someone else do it.
No one will notice if I don’t.
What difference will it make anyway?
Yikes! Anybody else feel the sting of conviction? I think most of us would have to admit we have been there. But… what if we changed our mindset and instead chose to think though these 3 considerations…
Who is looking to me as their leader – in my work, in my community, in my home?
If I lead well, what impact will it have in their life?
How could God use my willingness to engage Jesus in the way I lead?
Don’t fool yourself into believing that you do not have a responsibility to lead. The Bible tells us in Luke 12:48… When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.
So, what are we to do?
Accept the truth. We are not how we feel. We are not what others said about us. We are who the Bible says we are. We are Daughters of the King who have gifts and talents that we should use for God’s glory. We are to follow the example Jesus set and be about our Father’s business. What we say and how we live matters because others are watching. The example we are setting is making an impact – good or bad – it is not going unnoticed.
Accept the responsibility. Like the scripture above says – much is required of us. We are to accept the responsibility of becoming like Christ and that means learning to lead like Him. There is no “if you want to” or “if you feel like it” mentioned. We will be held accountable for the missed opportunities to use our gifts and to lead others in a way that points them to Christ. Today is a good day to accept the responsibility to engage Jesus and learn to lead like Him.
Accept the help. We are not on our own. God has promised to never leave us or forsake us, so He is always with us. He has given us the Holy Spirit as our Helper. If we will lean into Him, He will help, direct, and even speak through us. We just have to get out of His way. Engaging Jesus and choosing to lead doesn’t require a certification, it just requires a willing spirit.
When I think about all that is happening in the world, I long for us to have better leadership. I believe that better leadership would make a great difference. I often wish that strong Christian leaders would rise up and step into leadership roles.
What if that begins with you and me? What if we engaged Jesus in every area of our life and chose to learn to lead like Him? What impact could we have in the lives of our children and our grandchildren? How could we make a difference in our community? How could God use us in our workplace?
You see, God can take our little and do much with it. We can plant a seed here and a seed there, but God can multiply it in ways we could never imagine. The results are not our concern. The glory is not for us. But out of grateful hearts for all that God has done for us, we can choose to be obedient and engage Jesus in the way we lead.
It just might change the world.
I am praying for you!
Love,
Pam
