5 Step Solution to Overcome Blind Spots

Did you know you have some blind spots? Have you ever stopped to think there may be some things you do not see? Have you considered the fact that you could benefit from a little light being shown into your darkness?

I went to the eye doctor this week for the first time in a really long time. The doctor was kind, yet amazed. As he revealed to me the issues with my vision, he questioned why I had not been to see him sooner. He even chuckled a little when we realized instead of reading the tiny letters on the chart, I was figuring them out. (That is definitely my personality.) Needless to say my new glasses are on the way.

Why would we choose to be blind when there is a way to restore our sight?

We all have blind spots. Our sin blinds us to the reality of who we are. Often others can see our issues, when we are clueless. We go about our life as if we do not have any sin issues. For instance – what are your top 3 sin struggles? If you paused at all, having to think before you could list them, you have some blind spots. It is actually our sin that causes these blind spots.

What are we to do about our blind spots?

Here is a 5 Step Solution:

1.        Listen to those around you when they are brave and loving enough to point out your sin. Instead of being offended, be thankful they love you enough to be honest with you. (Note: Being offended is sinful – it’s pride.)

2.        Take it to God. Humble yourself before Him and ask Him to reveal your sin. “Lord, help me see my sin – the ones pointed out by others and the ones no one has mentioned to me. (anger, fear, arrogance, self-centeredness, destructive behavior, gluttony, greed, hatred, dishonesty, sexual impurity, doubt, disobedience, etc).”

3.        Listen for God to speak to you. Allow some quiet in that conversation so that you can hear from Him. If you are doing all the talking, it is hard to hear what He wants to reveal to you. (I am not suggesting you will hear an audible voice, but I am suggesting that if you are open to hear from Him, you may have something drop into your spirit and realize that you have a struggle with _____.)

4.        Read your Bible daily. I know you are busy and you read your devotional. But, the words in that devotional are not alive and active; God’s word is. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Hebrews 4:12 As you read your Bible, and grow to know God more, you will recognize your dark spots and have the opportunity to confess and ask for His help. We all need Him desperately.

5.        Receive His grace. Great news! Jesus defeated all of our strongholds on the cross. His amazing grace covers us. When we confess our sin struggle and lay it at His feet, we are forgiven and can move forward in His strength. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Jesus said “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

There is a solution. There is help. There is a better way.

So today, don’t seek the help you need; seek the Helper! As you seek the One who gave you life, the One who came to set you free, the One who carried your sin to the cross – the more you will be empowered to lay yourself down.

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

Finally, we will never fully dissipate every single blind spot, but we can reduce the darkness and embrace the light. One thing I know for sure – living in the Light is far better than living in the dark. The more Light we allow in our life, the more free we become.

I am praying for you today.
